Vertical agriculture is a concept that holds that from an economic and environmental point of view it is feasible to cultivate plant or animal life in skyscrapers or vertical surfaces.
By 2050, almost 80% of the world's population will live in urban centers. Based on the most conservative estimates of current demographic trends, the human population will increase by 3 billion people over this period. It is estimated that 10,000,000,000 hectares of new land (more than the surface of a country like Brazil) will be needed to produce enough food to feed these people, as long as traditional agricultural practices are followed today. At present, over 80% of the world's crop-eligible land is in use worldwide (Sources: FAO and NASA). Historically, about 15% have been spoiled by the use of bad practices. What can be done to avoid this imminent danger?
